This PaperPlay was the first ever. Our message was five "acts" of us as
caricatures in different stages of our lives. We invited our guests to "join
us in Act Six" for our wedding - addressing them personally by printing
their name at the end of our message and on the lid of the PaperPlay. Our
location, date, and picture of our location was also printed on the lid, while using our color scheme
of dark red and dark blue throughout the design. Our names were printed on
our "play" and on the theater stage. Velvet curtains were pleated by hand
and glued in. Dial made of wood, hand painted and distressed. Accessory
cards were designed and constructed with location information, directions,
map, and RSVP instructions, placed in the lid and secured by tying a bow
of red ribbon. The PaperPlay was packaged and cushioned with excelsior in a
corrugated shipping box with our personally designed address labels.

The elements in this design were completely chosen just for us. We found an image
of our location, altered it, and used it for the main image on our lid. The film,
Moulin Rouge, was quite an inspiration for me, and my love of France kept the flame going.
There are French elements, words, and colors throughout our design. The text was completely
custom, and we addressed our guests personally with their name on top.

Here is another angle of the lid, where you can better see the corner effects we chose as
part of our customization. ALL portions of the box were assembled and cut by hand. As you can
see, the corners had to come together quite seamlessly, so they were cut at 45-degree angles
and the blue edges were reinforced before assembly. The ends of the lid were folded over to give
a more seamless look, rather than having the edge of the paper show. You can also see our event
date was printed on the front of the lid.

Detail of the inside. The dial is rolled upwards by the guest to scroll our message forward;
it was spray painted black, then textured gold, and scuffed for effect. We wanted this depth and
tactile look, so we used red velvet curtains that were pleated by hand, and the
layer the pillars are on is above the curtains & message. Notice the printed perspective wooden planks on the "stage floor"
with spotlight simulation. The frame seen here includes our names, and the names of our parents
(as "producers") for introduction to our message.

In this photo, the "theater" is seen face-on. We printed our names and gave the venue a title just to add
to the customization. This is another frame of our PaperPlay with an illustration of Paul and I by Andre Joliecoeur.
(You have the option to provide an illustrator or we can match you with one that has a style you like.)

Here is the underside of the lid with accompanying items for our event. Everything seen here was cut and
assembled by hand. The handtied bow holds a layered pocket that carries two, small, bi-fold cards that are
pulled out of their pockets by the little tabs. The left card included directions and information on our
location, the right card included RSVP information. (We chose to keep costs down and have guests RSVP online only.)

Here is a close up of the layering with paper that matched our color scheme. You can see the beautiful pearlescent
sheet with embossed wave design. The little sparkles in the red paper are also shown, which you could see when light
hit the paper in certain angles. (I wanted some shimmer, but nothing too metallic or glitterly for our design.)
The edge of the pearlescent paper was hand trimmed and the ends of the ribbon for the bow were also cut by hand to achieve the angle.

Here are the bi-fold cards pulled out of their pockets. These were printed on ivory textured paper, hand cut and hand
folded. I illustrated the map on the computer and pulled in location information so guests could have some
background on where are our event was being held. You can also see our names and date on the bottom left, plus the
familiar image of our location at the top left.

The bottom of our box is also customizable - we chose to keep it simple and use it as a little surprise
for guests that chose to flip it upside down. Our sentiment was a French expression that we thought
summed up our relationship, surrounded by a filigree illustration.

Our PaperPlay was sent to our guests surrounded by excelsior for padding and more tactile contrast. Our
larger shipping box was then sealed and addressed with our custom designed label.
